How does Atom's adaptive algorithm work?
Atom's adaptive learning creates personalised learning paths for every pupil
At Atom, we use adaptive technology to ensure every student is challenged at the right level - stretching them in stronger topics while providing extra support where they need it most.
How it works
Atom's algorithm continuously adjusts the difficulty of questions based on each student's performance:
- Answer correctly → questions get harder
- Answer incorrectly → questions get easier
This keeps every student in their optimal learning zone: challenged, but never demotivated.
Getting started
When you add a student, you'll be asked for their date of birth. This sets a baseline level aligned to their age and year group, which - combined with their accuracy - shapes the questions they see.
Adapting over time
The more your students use the platform, the smarter it gets. Every answer feeds the algorithm, allowing it to fine-tune difficulty at the subtopic level. Regular use is key to getting the best results.
Support along the way
Every question type comes with tailored videos and helpsheets, differentiated by difficulty level - so a younger learner or a student finding a topic tricky will see different support materials from a more confident peer. No matter where a student is in their learning journey, the right support is always on hand.
Tracking progress
Performance data is broken down by subtopic and available on the Statistics page, giving you detailed insights into each student's strengths and areas for improvement.
